Kath was born in Carlisle on the 29th of January 1950. She was brought up in Kirkcaldy with her two brothers Alistair and Kenneth and Kath attended the East Primary School and Kirkcaldy High School before completing her secondary education as one of the first intake of pupils to the newly opened school at Balwearie.
As a wee girl, Kath was by her own admission forever getting up to mischief! In fact Kath used to joke that she got the belt so often that she would put her hands out to the teacher as soon as she entered the classroom because she knew that she would get the belt and offered to get it over with at the start of the lesson!
And it wasn’t just at school that Kath would get into trouble. Kath would recall the time when she was about fourteen when she was having a fly fag in her bedroom and she was blowing the smoke out of the window. Her Mum was out the back hanging up the washing and saw the smoke billowing from the window. That was it! Kath was caught red handed! Her Mum’s punishment for Kath was to make Kath smoke a full packet of Capstan Full Strength one after the other until she was sick! And it would be another fifteen years or so before Kath would have another cigarette!!!
As a teenager Kath also liked to go along to the dancing with her pals. The Raith Ballroom was a favourite place to go – where they would dance and also where they could see the hit groups of the time - like Gerry and the Pacemakers. After a night out at the Raith Ballroom Kath would often return home later than she was allowed. At the front door, Kath would take off her high heels so she wasn’t heard creeping in. She would jump over the top stair because it creaked. One night she returned home, took off her shoes and jumped over the top stair. But in the darkness as she put her hand on the door handle she was confronted by her Mum. So that was it! She was caught! Kath was in bother again!
After she left school, Kath started work as an apprentice hairdresser at a salon in Kinghorn. Kath would have various jobs at different stages in her life. For a while she worked at Babygro. She also worked at the carpet factory in Kirkcaldy. She owned the grocers shop in Townhill and was a housekeeper at the Aberdour Hotel. And Kath’s last job was working with Fife Council Environmental Services – where Kath worked for the past nine years and where she was popular with her employers and her work colleagues there.
But the most important part of Kath’s life was her family life. Kath married young and had her two children – Karen and Robb. Later Kath met Alan and they would live happily together for over twenty five years.
Kath’s family was complete when they had their son Alan. Kath was the so proud Mum to all three of her children. And Kath was happy to welcome their partners – Donald, Steph and Claire into the family. And in turn Kath became the so very proud Nana to Aimee, Danny, Aidan and Jenna.
Kath had different things she liked to do. She liked nothing better than a good blether and was always on the phone for hours on end! And when Kath was blethering she would always have a fag in her hand.
She also liked to go gallivanting with Karen. They would ‘borrow’ Dad’s car and sometimes he would only know that they had when they ran out of petrol. Like the time he saw the car at Seafield in Kirkcaldy when they ran out of fuel and he was passing in his works van! Caught red handed again!
Kath enjoyed watching horror films. The scarier and the gorier the better! Kath also had a great sense of fun. She liked a laugh and to carry on! Like the time that Kath and Alan arrived at Christmas. They took off their coats! And there was Kath with an enormous pair of fake plastic boobs. And Alan with a gigantic set of plastic bum cheeks!
In the last few months Kath decided to try her hand at the Big Bingo. She would go with Karen, Alan and Claire and because her sight wasn’t so good, Kath got an electronic scoreboard. Kath was using the board – dabbing away when the board stared beeping. Kath turned and said ‘Oh Ya - I must have broken it!!!
‘No you’ve won Mum’ said Karen. No way said Kath! But sure enough Kath had won £200. The woman came over and handed Kath an envelope with the money inside. And although she never won again, Kath would always carry that envelope in her handbag for good luck. A nice win that night though. And Alan also won that night too – so you all left the Bingo that night a lot richer than when you arrived. A nice happy memory for all the family!
If only I could see you, kath, just for a little while
to wish you merry xmas
and to see your lovely smile
your life was love and labour
your love for people true
you did your best for everyone
thats how I remember you
thats how I remember you
suddenly taken, forever missed
in my heart always
Kath it's been 2 short years, I love and miss you so, I'm lost
without you, you were stonger than you thought. You are always in
my thoughts.
Love you always xx
Without you my angel the sun does not shine
Without you my angel my heart will surely die
Without you my angel i do not feel complete
Without you my angel I can'y even understand me
Without you my angel there is no point to a smile
Without you my angel I won't be able to finish that last mile
Without you my angel I will always be sad
Because angel you were all I ever had
Cant believe 2 years have passed
Though it's been 2 years now
since you were taken away,
the memories are still strong
and I wish you were here today.
I can't see nor touch you
so I know you're not here
but I've still got the past
and in my heart you're still near.
If I could see you one last time
you know what I would do-
Release all my emotions
and say mum, I LOVE YOU!!!

For all those times you stood by me
For all the truth you made me see
For all the joy you brought to my life
For all the wrong you put right
For every dream you made come true
For all the love I found in you
I'll be forever thankful Kath
You're the one who held me up
Never to let me fall
You're the one who saw me through it all
Your Angel, Your Mother by Natasha Jordan
You look back on memories you forget you had,
And at times you'll smile, even though it hurts so bad.
Your Mother is a special woman, and no one can take her place,
You'll find a peace of mind when you remember her smiling face.
Your Mother is an Angel, now she flies high above the rest,
And in your hearts, always and forever, she will be the very best.
She has earned her wings, and it's time for her to fly,
I know it hurts, no one’s ever ready to say goodbye.
She knows you do not understand, and that you cry at night.
But as you finally drift off to sleep, let her memory hold you tight.
She will be your Guardian Angel, through the rest of your life.
Helping lead you on the road, between what’s wrong and right.
Your Mother loves you so much, and her love will always remain true
Please don't ever think for a second, that your Mother will forget you
A Mother’s love is like no other in the whole world
And she has the most wonderful memories, of her little girl.
She has taken them with her, as she's flown away
Up to heaven free of pain, to her new home where she will stay.
So although you cannot see her, and you wish she could be there
Your Mother can always hear you, and your Mother will always care.
A Mother does not forget, the two greatest loves of her life
She loved nothing more than being your Mum & your Dad's wife
She is so proud of her family, and that’s in her heart to stay
Even though she's an Angel, and has had to fly away.
So as you cry your tears, remember your Mother’s love
Being sent to you from her, from the beautiful Heaven above.
She'll be there through your good times, she'll be there through your bad
She'll be there when you're happy, she'll be when you sad.
Your Mother has become an Angel now, It's her time to fly
And you will never know how much it hurt her
To watch you have to say goodbye.
love u always mum

Forgive us lord if we still weep
For the wife and mother we could not keep
We hide our sorrow so hard we try
We laugh with others, alone we cry
As each day passes the loneliness grows
We miss you more than anyone knows
kath, loved by all of us
